Blue and white ceramics from Asia and Europe

Chinese potters first produced blue-and-white porcelain in the city of Jingdezhen around 1320. From the very beginning, it was a luxury item that attracted Muslim merchants who traded heavily with China and exported it to Persia, Egypt and Syria. It soon inspired the potters of these countries to imitate and create new things. Finally, in the 16th century, the Portuguese brought the first large quantities to Europe until the Dutch took over the market a hundred years later and, in addition to Asia, primarily supplied Europe with the “white gold”.
